Brett the Brick is a 60lb house robot at NHRL. He is made of steel and driven by 2 powered skateboard trucks. He uses 4 VESC Motor controllers. Brett also houses an HD Camera where he serves as an in ring camera person. Brett is powered powered by a 20,000 MaH Lipo at 6s.

Bert and Bart are Brett's long-lost triplet brothers, while Brad and Chett are their cousins. Chett is sometimes referred to as "Bort" just to blend in with the other robots.

Fluffy and Flo's origins are unknown as of now, although the appearance of a second 300lb house bot has raised some questions.

All house bots contain HD cameras where they can capture close-up action shots for our livestreams. They also have the important jobs of unsticking bots who have become stuck together, high-centered on debris, leaning on a wall, or doing "the thing." Each competitor gets one unstick per match from a house bot; if they get stuck a second time and cannot move, they will be counted out.

All seven bots have controllable LEDs that allow the colors of their eyes and face to change.

Brett, Bert, Bart, Chett, and Brad all weigh 60 pounds. They are made of steel and driven by 2 powered skateboard trucks. They each use 4 VESC Motor controllers, and are each powered by two 6s batteries in parallel.

Fluffy and Flo weigh in at a little over 300 pounds, and are 11.5 inches tall, 20.5 inches deep, and 24.5 inches across.

Brett has appeared in different forms throughout NHRL history. Original versions of Brett simply used a cinder block. It turns out 3lb bots can destroy a cinder block. For the 2020 season, Brett was upgraded to a steel brick that would be easier to service and have more space for batteries.
The first appearance was at the November 2020 NHRL event. It features a (mostly) vertical spinner weapon, embedded inside the ball that protrudes 0.75" outside the ball. The main body is varying thicknesses of HDPE, cut with CNC. The two ends that cap the sphere are TPU. The internal weapon pulleys and drive gearing are 3D printed nylon.

There are several big issues with this design approach:

====Fluffy and Flo's info====
* '''Directional Control''' - Shreking Ball can move quickly forward or backward, however, it cannot turn quickly. An internal reaction wheel was added directly centered on the vertical axis, but it was undersized (in order to stay within its weight requirement). Even then, powering the reaction wheel up/down would turn the ball, but if the down/up were done too quickly, the rotation would be reversed. The small size resulted in slow turns and not was not used during its matches.
* '''Weapon Reach and Orientation''': The weapon's reach was too minimal to create effective strikes; that coupled with the fact that the weapon tended to roll with the bot when it lost its footing made it hard to drive to weapon into the opponent.

Strengths:

* Durability : Shreking Ball is close to indestructible. It is encased inside a thick durable shell, making it almost impossible to harm the internal robot.

In its first fight in 2020, Shreking Ball went up against Droopy, which is also a 5 lbs bot with two very heavy and destructive horizontal spinners. The match was fun to watch... both bots went aggressively after each other and when Droopy made contact, Shreking Ball went flying. Needless to say, given Shreking Ball's lack of a controllable weapon, it did minimal damage to Droopy, while putting a few hundred cuts in the arena floor. Droopy landed some massive hits, which resulted in cracking one of Shreking Ball's rings (and adding 24 gashes around the rest of the bot). Shreking Ball made it to the end of the match, and Droopy was awarded the judges decision.

In its second match, Shreking Ball was up against Booooring. Given that both of these bots have minimal/ineffective weaponry, it was mesmerizing to watch the green glowing ball, but the match lacked the big hits of the first match. Given the length of repairs from the first match, Shreking Ball's battery was not completely charged and it ran out of power in the last 20 seconds of the match.

* More LEDs... make this bot glow.
* Internal structure much heavier (thicker) than necessary. Much weight can be saved. (for that internal reaction wheel).
* Gearing was done the original way in order to use a brushless motor... would drop two stage gearing and switch to a single stage using a geared brushed motor. This will also save weight.
* Pondering other ways to make this ball more controllable... please share your insights.
* Might close up the ball completely and move the weapon to side edges.

Our original three house bots (left to right): Bert, Fluffy (old design), and Brett
Bart The Brick

NHRL uses seven house bots: Brett the Brick, Bert the Brick, Bart the Brick, Chett the Brick, Brad the Brick, Fluffy, and Flo.

Brad The Brick

Brett has been a part of NHRL since we began in 2018, using a single 3lb cage. Bert and Fluffy made their debuts in February 2021; Bert in the new second 3lb cage, and Fluffy in the 30lb cage.

Additional house bots Bart, Chett, and Brad have been added to 3lb cages throughout NHRL, and Flo has been added to the big boxes.

Chett The Brick
Fluffy (New Design)
Flo

Brett's power switch legend

Brett's Power Switch

All house bots are equipped with a large red power switch originally designed as a marine battery disconnect. Rumor has it that if any robot is able to them down during a match, they would win the NHRL tournament for the weight class they have entered. While winning the weight class is possible, it is a certainty that any robot that can switch off Brett by switching his power switch will win $1000.00 and the match they are fighting in.

Brett was successfully deactivated for the first time during the March 15th 2021 event. This occurred when Judge's Dream knocked Fragment into Brett. Since Fragment technically was the bot that switched Brett off, they were granted the win. Considering the circumstances, Fragment's driver opted to take the $1000 but forfeited their win in the name of sportsmanship.

$1000 was awarded in cash on the spot.

Last switch was September 30th by Kevin Milczewski with Timber Viper when he turned off Fluffy. It was quite the moment. However, Milczewski is keen on weaponizing House Bots by flipping them onto his opponents' robots.
